I have always been intrigued by the human body and how we move and interact with the world around us. I am discovering that in addition to the human figure, it is more the movement and form of nature that catches my eye and interest. In my work, I attempt to create a pleasing form and the suggestion of movement that maintains a natural appearance. While working with wood, it is important for me to be respectful and appreciate the beauty of the wood. Because of this, my work is a response to the wood itself as opposed to a clear predetermined idea. I enjoy this process as I develop a unique relationship with each piece. It is a wonderful "dance," this process, with dramatic cuts and turns revealing the wood's beauty and honoring it with complementary line and form. This style of work may make it appear to be random and without theme, but the constant voice is the relationship with the wood and how I interact with each piece. The pieces are simply evidence of my journey.
